Managing Severely Resorbed Jaws without Grafting

Abstract
Previously, a good candidate for implant therapy was defined as a healthy patient with plenty of dense bone. Clinical situations that diverged greatly from this were considered at risk for implant therapy. Advanced surgical procedures (e.g., bone grafts, sinus lifts) were surgical options developed to modify the bone situations. However, it is time to revisit this dogma. Tilting of implants, Zygoma implants, short, wide, and tapered implant designs may be used to increase primary anchorage and long-term load-bearing capacity in compromised bone sites. Documented clinical procedures was presented, demonstrating the effects of these simplified and less invasive treatment protocols in a daily practice.
